Elizabeth, The Golden Age

I'm fascinated by the new trailer for Elizabeth. Judging from what I can see, it's going to be a smashing film. September cannot come too soon! And I can only wish that Blanchett's performance is powerful enough to re-claim her the Oscar she was stripped of in 1998 (Gwyneth Paltrow won then).

so many films about Elizabeth. I have a DVD of the BBC series with Helen Mirren too... I love her, but there are other kings also worth portraying... no?

ambala - yes, there are so many films, because she was a very interesting person and one of the powerful queens. I'm not so interested in (the other European) monarchs, but I really like her from what I've read/seen about her. This is not to suggest that there aren't other equally interesting kings/queens, but I'm not so much into them.

And besides I'm looking forward to the sequel so much because I just LOVED the first part - Elizabeth (1998).

Well I agree in a way. I do however think it's just a biiig anglosaxon promotion of one of the monarchs that is also a woman, which helps immensly. I admire her a lot, and have studied her life and culture in debth, but it's not all gold that shines...

I'd love to see a good film of Louis XIV for example, or Christina of Sweden.

I certainly don't have as much knowledge in the field of European monarchs as you do.

Certainly it is true that the films I've seen portray Elizabeth as a good person and a good queen. Naturally everyboy is not wholy good or bad. What in particular bothers you about Elizabeth I?

I am very fond of Cate Blanchett, who portrays her and that's one of the main reasons why I'm so eager to see the sequel.

Lady Galadriel ...

She was indeed a good queen, but very temperamental and not little amout of people actually died because of her. If you remember in Black Adder she always threatens with a head being chopped off or going to prison. Well it was not far from that exaggeration. If you were one of the poor sods she disliked you could be executed. A little something she inherited from her father, haha...

I LOVE Cate Banchet! She's perfect.

Ambala - I love her, too. :) I'm sorry to say I didn't watch many episodes of Black Adder. But if you consider that she was indeed her father's daughter and the fact that she didn't go easy on the Catholics, you're not short of a blood bath.
