So long and thanks for all the Random ramblings

You will notice that RR does not stand for Random ramblings anymore, since I've changed it to Random reviews, which better suits this blog.

I plan to post my book-, film-, theatre- etc. reviews here with an occasional personal post, thus arose the need to change the title as well. But fear not, my friends, for I have not changed in the slightest.

Will this affect the ratio between personal and review-ish posts?

P.S. darn, I was using the tag "rambling" in my blog as homage. How ungrateful of you! ;)

Ramblings is a word with ... character. Reviews is kind of bland. And anyway, who cares how a blog relates to its title (just look at mine).

Well, if other readers complain as well, I might have to change it back.

Everything for readership, they say... and they might be right. :)

Anyway, random ramblings was so general...I thought reviews was more specific and there are less "random reviews" than "random ramblings".

Well, would you, as readers like the ratio between personal posts and reviews to change?

Mitja - I agree. I never quite understood how you got to naming your blog that way, but at least it stands out in the crowd.

Nope. We, as readers would not.

Plus, I kind of don't like being fed a review but I quite enjoy being fed a rambling even when it says it's a review in disguise.

A rose is a rose is a rose.

I'm starting to think that this whole renaming business was a completely wrong move.

Urša - thanks for your input. I don't mean to feed my opinions to anyone. I post them here so as to keep track of the things I've seen and my reviews are solely my own thoughts about something (what I liked/disliked, what was lacking, what was the atmosphere like...). I can hardly claim I have enough knowledge about film/theatre/... so as to be able to criticize without feeling at least a little guilty. So the reviews are merely a personal reflection and a log and you can disagree with my views, as they are not to be considered as the ultimate treatment of the subject.

Title "ramblings" was better than "reviews" to me, but in the end, this doesn't mater that much. You may also consider the Wordpress.com service some when in the future. Do know that it allows one to transfer the Blogger.com post (I guess along with the comments). That's cool!

Not really, voyeurism is quite compelling.

Well, there is always Rambling Reviews. ;)

Here is an idea for the post that would interest me very much. Crowds demand!

Out Institute for heath (IVZ) seems like an important institute. It watches our public health and our health stats. The last, now ex, boss was dr. Marušič, who run the institute firmly, as I understand. He also had some neat ideas. Some didn't take roots.
One of such ideas was to have a health account with everything about us and our health records, scans .. at hand. In the digital era this sounds really neat.

What interests me is this: is this really a wholly novel idea; nothing similar in Europe yet; WHY didn't it take roots?

P.S. If your new "review" status is on your way, you could think something in the lines of "Review of our health monitoring". What do you say?

In a nutshell, the problem with digitalizing your health file is finance. Some hospitals already have their own central of digitalized files, but they don't share them. The other problem is privacy. As soon as you collect all the person's health info on one place, then you must make completely sure that no one but the person's doctor can access the information. But, when you send your patient to a specialist, he must also be able to access all his medical records. This system needs to be built in a way which will enable unlimited accessibility to many docotrs but at the same time prevent anyone else from entering the database.

Further all the medcial photos (RTG, ultrasound, MRI, CT,...) need to be digitalized. So you'd have to scan every Roentgen photo and add it to a person's digital file. Doctors don't yet have the means and the time to do that.

And once we do start bulding this health database, then we need to spread it throughout the whole country. Just Ljubljana or Maribor won't do. And this takes money and time. And doctors are always in short supply where money is concerned.

Digitalisation shouldn't burden doctors. This is purely a problem for information architects, programmers and a "manual labour" force actually digitalising.

As far as privacy is concerned, there is nothing special about this case. Fine-grained permission systems have been done numerous times before.

The biggest problem by far is money and initiative.

Blogger Nadezhda said...

Still, you have to employ extra people for scanning.

Of course. Having said that I am fairly certain digitalisation will eventually happen, the sooner we make the transition, less expensive and all around simpler it will be.

Dr. Marušič also says that this is a bold step, but that we will some day probably take, but also are too afraid to do so at present.
It would be grand to be innovators, the leaders! at one such thing, don't you think.

Umm ... I guess I need to write a second comment in order to clarify the first one :)

I wasn't implying that what you write doesn't deserve the title "review". Or that what you write is nothing more than meandering through words and therefore should not be called anything but a rambling. Or that me being fed what you write is a bad thing or even something you have any control over.

We're probably making an elephant out of a mouse over a phrase here ... being fed something is often a result of voluntarily opening one's mouth. I come here and open my mind for whatever I find. You don't need to remind me that I don't have to agree with anything you write. You don't have to explicitly write how your reviews are merely personal opinion (hence maybe not good enough ... but good enough for what?). Obviously they convey enough knowledge and entertainment that I keep coming back to read them. There's no need for defence. You're good enough to be called a rambler or a reviewer or whatever else you want to call yourself.

Back on topic - what I wanted to say in my first comment was that just like a schoolgirl I'd rather read a book that wasn't on the school booklist. I'll take ramblings over reviews any day even when the only difference between them is that one word.

I'll go back to my cave now.

Ursa - thanks, but I think I already understood you well the first time.

I like to explain some things further, because after all these are just written words, we're not in direct contact and so sometimes I might be understood wrongly just because I made a statement but did not develop it further. (like in Life is Beautiful when Bo and I were talking about the same thing, but I needed to explain that. :)

(And again, I am explaining... ;)
